I began my art career as an illustrator and graphic designer after receiving a BFA from
Kent State University in 1977. Logo and T-shirt designs were my specialties for clients that included upscale department stores, non-profit organizations, and mom-and-pop businesses. Using a variety of illustration styles and innovative techniques, I created a boatload of T-shirt images, many with a good dose of humor. In the mid 90s, I completed fifty T-shirt designs for an environmental education group, which were sold by students in 10,000 schools in the US and Canada. Money raised helped preserve endangered rainforest areas in Central America. This project allowed me to express my growing concern for our planet's ecology, the increased extinction of species, and the rampant destruction of age-old rainforests. After switching focus to my personal art, I returned to school and in 2008 earned an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, America's oldest art school. Today I work in several disciplines, including sculpture, drawing, photography, experimental video and the ever-expanding genre known as works-on-paper. In 2021, Welcome To My World, a solo exhibition, featuring 100 pieces from my Urban Mask series, was installed in the Main Gallery of the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica, California. |
